Coach Blatchford

Coach Don Blatchford began coaching soccer in 2007 after playing the sport of Ice Hockey for many years. The transition to coaching Soccer was a natural consequence of his daughter’s interest in playing in that sport and grew from there as all three of his girls have played soccer at many levels over the past 15 years. After a number of years of coaching indoor Youth soccer teams, Recreational programs and Academy teams at places like the old Howards Sports Facility (now XL Sports) in Saco as well as travel teams in the Pine Tree Soccer league within Soccer Maine, in 2013 Blatchford joined the Saco Soccer club as a head coach for their U12 girls and then joined the Velocity Soccer club as a head coach of a U12 girls Academy team and remained there for several years as an assistant with their Girls Premier team as well. Also in 2013 he obtained the U.S. Soccer National E license.

After several more years of coaching duties that allowed him to assist other local clubs such as the Lake Region Soccer Club and Seacoast United Soccer club he was hired by RSU 23 in OOB in 2017 as their Middle School girls’ head soccer coach and also served as an assistant with the High School girls team. That same year he took a position with Rosevelt Soccer club out of Westbrook and has remained a girls’ soccer coach with that club for over 5 years. In 2018 he obtained a U.S. Soccer National D license.

Blatchford has now accepted an offer to return to Velocity FC and is looking forward to sharing his experience and all that he has learned over the years with the players here.
